Meet Zach Johnson

Hi, I’m Zach, a Mathematics major at Mizzou, aiming to become either a college professor or a high school teacher. Since 2022, I have been tutoring students in subjects ranging from geometry to differential equations. I’ve been fascinated by the science of learning ever since I started tutoring and am constantly seeking new ways to be more helpful to the students I tutor. I have seen and experienced the difference between a good math professor and a bad one many times, and I strive to be like those I admire. Being a good tutor is important to me because I know it’s the path to becoming a better teacher.

Meet Nathan Hollenbeck

Hello, I’m Nathan, a Mathematics Education major at Mizzou, aiming to become a high school math teacher. Currently, I’m a volunteer tutor in the Columbia Public School district through the COR program. I’ve been interested in math since I was a little kid, thanks to my dad, who is a college math professor. In middle school, I became even more interested and joined math clubs, eventually competing in math competitions. I know that some people feel intimidated by math and think they are naturally bad at it, but I believe anyone can master math with the right help. In one-on-one sessions, I’ve repeatedly seen so-called ‘non-math’ students succeed when they have the right support. My mission is to help as many people as I can experience that success.

We will send you a Zoom meeting invitation prior to your tutoring session. If you join early, you will be placed in a waiting room until your tutor arrives. Please come prepared with questions and materials from your class to maximize the value of the session. We also prefer that you keep your camera on, as it allows us to provide better support.

We will meet at an agreed upon location on Mizzou’s campus. This will typically be Ellis Library, Strickland Hall, or the Student Center. If possible we will book a private study room to reduce distractions. We ask that you come prepared with questions and material from your class, so we can provide as much value in the session as possible.
